“You know all those things you’ve always wanted to do? Go do them.”
I received a plaque with this saying on it as a gift this year. I put it on my dresser, so that I can look at it each and every day and be reminded of the dreams that I had long ago. Dreams that I still have.
More than anything, I wanted to get married and become a mother. That dream came true in 1992, 1994 and 1996 with the birth of my three wonderful daughters. Although my marriage ended in divorce in 2001, my girls are my pride and joy. I am grateful each day for them.
I wanted to finish my college degree, and I do have my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. I have recently returned to take some Early Childhood Education classes to help advance my career, and that has reignited my love of learning so maybe a new goal will be to complete my Master’s degree.
My wish to write a book took another twenty-seven years to achieve when in 2013 I wrote and published Fun4Babies and then Riding Waves in 2014. I completed the first draft of my third book Suppression in 2016, and hope to have it ready to publish this year. Writing is one of those things that I always wanted to do, but just never did it until recently. I plan on writing until I take my last breath.
Another goal was to own a townhome or condo. I lived in a house when I was married, but rented places after my divorce. I have never had a house that I felt like a home. This is on my wish list still.
Traveling is a life long passion. I have been blessed in my life to see different places in the United States as well as many parts of the world. I hope to continue visiting and learning about this great earth with Italy and Australia at the top of my list.
As a young girl, I dreamed of being a teacher. Although I never was quite sure what this would look like, I have a desire to teach and mentor others. I ended up as an infant teacher for thirteen years, and I am now getting many opportunities to train others. I pray that this will continue and expand.
Reflecting on these long ago dreams has helped me to see that I was able to go after many of the things that I had dreamed about, but there is so much more I want to do. 2017 is going to be the year of reaching for all that I have always wanted to do. What will you go do this year?
All through my day, no matter where I go, or what I do, I am always looking for the good. I try to find the good in people, in the world, in my life or even just in my day.
