I missed another milestone anniversary. In addition to missing my 10 year anniversary of living in Chicago, I also missed my five year anniversary of writing this blog. Since July 2012 I’ve published 663 posts here. These are 10 of my favorites:
I sexually harassed my NSA polygrapher – Some people don’t believe this story is true. Sometimes I barely believe it myself.
Good neighbors make good fences – I love this post, and I still love my neighbors.
Green bean casserole: A Thanksgiving memory of a lost friend – I’ve written about my friend Bev a few times, but this was the first time and my favorite.
I believe in butter: A baking manifesto – It’s important to stand up for what you believe in.
40 really awful writing prompts that no writer should ever use – This blog started as a place where I published 40 item lists for each of the 40 weeks leading up to my 40th birthday. This is one of my favorites.
How to be an amateur stock photo model – I don’t do a lot of galleries, but I had a lot of fun doing this one.
Elf on the Shelf revealed to be part of NSA secret spying program – My favorite part of this may have been the commenters who wanted to debunk what I thought was clearly satire.
Alexandra and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad zero-day day – This may fall into the category of “amuses no one but myself,” but it does amuse me, which is why it made the list.
‘Twas the Night Before Halloween – Something I hadn’t anticipated but has turned into one of my favorite traditions is tranforming my blog into “Listing Toward Halloween” each October. Many of the Halloween series posts have been written by guest authors, but this is one of my favorite Halloween posts that I wrote myself.
The October Diary – This is a bit of a cheat because it is technically 31 posts, but I’m proud of this serialized fiction piece. It was definitely my biggest undertaking on this site.
Whether you are new to my blog or have been here from the beginning, thank you for reading. I’ve loved having a place to share the eclectic stuff that comes out of my head, and I am grateful so many people have enjoyed my posts.
