Fred Savage is great in The Wizard, but the extras are the real stars.

Getting paid to sit around in the background of a movie sounds like a pretty awesome gig. That is until you understand how movies are shot. Then you realize it’s a lot of sitting around, waiting for things to happen. Background work, or extra work, is usually a pretty thankless job, but it’s important to make a scene or location look and feel real.

If the extra has done their job correctly then the only people that should really notice them is their own friends and family because they told them to look out for them.

This isn’t the case with the 1989 commercial disguised as a movie, The Wizard. The extras in this film seem to demand your attention and it’s not just because most of them are wearing neon colors.
