For many anglers, this is a trip they wait for all year long.
For 13 years, the Fishing and Outdoor Radio Show has hosted a trip to Lake Mille Lacs in Minnesota during Labor Day week. We bring many anglers up to McQuoid’s Inn in Isle MN who provides us with great lodging in hotel rooms or condo cabins. Several members of the Fish Tales fishing club have joined us for years however for the past two, 6 – 8 of them enjoy the comfort of one of the big condo cabins at McQuoids. The advantages for groups like that include multiple bedrooms and baths, a spacious family room and kitchen with a full sized refrigerator, stove and massive dining table.
But there’s no need to cook on this trip. All of our breakfasts and dinners are supplied by Buzzie’s on the Bay, Bar, Restaurant and Catering. Our dinners were different every night so we got to enjoy prime rib, shrimp, steak, BBQ ribs, stuffed pork chops and more.
The weather was cool and comfortable. On a couple of days we had some wind and an evening of rain. None of this however held us back from getting on the water on some part of Mille Lacs or on one of the local smaller bodies of water.
We started off our trip with seminars and a free raffle for our guests. Our speakers talked about Minnesota fishing rules and regulations, walleye, muskie, smallmouth bass and small lake fishing. This is not a competitive trip, its one for all to enjoy and share information.
Our guests caught largemouth and smallmouth bass, walleye, perch crappie rock bass, pumpkinseed and bluegills. It was all a matter of preference. The diversity of our anglers was great and that’s what this trip is all about; fish for whatever specie you like, and just have fun doing it.
Here are some photos from this year’s trip to Minnesota. We already know that several of our guests are looking forward to joining Jim DaRosa and me again next Labor Day week for our radio show’s fall fishing trip up north.
