Chase winter blues with some fun up North

Due to current weather conditions and the forecast for the near future at Boulder Junction’s Winter Park, it has been decided to CANCEL the (Between the Holidays) Winter Celebration on December 29.

Weather conditions have not allowed for flooding of the ice skating rink yet and we are running out days to prepare it for use at this event. The Boulder Junction Chamber apologizes for the cancellation of the much enjoyed event.

Don’t worry though, fun is yet to come just a little down the road in February

I’ve heard about this and that it’s a lot of fun.  I’ve even made plans to head up to the Northwoods to see for myself what the Frozen Tozen Winter Fest is all about.  Sounds like a fun way to chase away the winter blues.  This winter, I’m going.

For 2013 the annual Boulder Junction Frozen Tozen Winter Fest will be held on Saturday, February 23rd.  This family event features an ice fishing tournament, warm food and drink, a raffle, an exciting game of ice golf, turkey bowling (TURKEY BOWLING???), snowshoe relays, tug of war, hockey games and ice skating.  All events support community projects in Boulder Junction. The ice fishing tournament proceeds support the Boulder Junction Boat Landing Improvement Fund.  The ice golf benefit will support the Community Food Pantry.

Tournament registration begins at 10:00am at the Boulder Lake landing, with walk-in registrations welcome throughout the day. The tournament runs from 11am-5pm. At only $20 for adults and $10 for kids 14 and under, the tournament is fun and affordable for everyone. New this year is a team division. 2 to 6 individual registrants may also sign up as a team for no extra charge. Awards will be presented to top anglers in the adult and junior divisions as well as an overall team award.

The ice golf and turkey bowling (TURKEY BOWLING????  I have to see how that works.) will take place any time between 11am-4pm, enjoy this wintry take on classic sports. A course of 4 holes will be played; a long drive contest and 5 frames of bowling will also be featured. If you attend, please bring a non-perishable donation to the Community Food Pantry as it will be your fee to participate. Prizes will be awarded to both adult and junior golfers & bowlers. You can take part in one or both activities.

Snowshoeing and hockey! At 11:30am there will be snowshoe relay races.  Various races will be held, so bring a team or teams will be picked for you at the start of the races.  Finish the snowshoe fun off with a tug of war at 1:00pm!  Snowshoe activities will end around 1:30pm. From 1:30pm to 3:30pm head out to the skating area for some hockey influenced games.  A limited supply of ice skates and snowshoes will be available, but participants are encouraged to bring their own.

Awards  will follow at JJ’s Pub and Grub in town at 5:30pm.  In addition to the Scott Kimball Award for the largest catch in both the adult and junior division, each division will also award prizes for the largest fish caught in each of the following categories: Walleye, Small Mouth or Large Mouth Bass, Pan Fish (Bluegill, Perch and Crappie), and Northern Pike.  The team catching the most total inches will receive the Team Award.
