While at the ICAST Show I had the opportunity to try the new Frabill Ice Suit on. It was great. Light weight by super warm. It was very movable. Put the hood up and turn your head, the hood turns with you. This is one comfortable suit made for he serious cold weather and ice angler. This is going on my Christmas wish list.
This is what Frabill has to say about the Ice Suit…
COLD WEATHER GEAR GRANTED ‘DE FACTO’ STATUS
Frabill, the industry leader in ice fishing for over 70 years, goes straight to the summit with ICESUIT
Jackson, Wis. – The term ‘de facto’ is used to describe something – in this case a product – that’s earned the status of being the ‘standard’ or the most widely accepted entity in its category or group. Typically, de facto rank is earned through time, consistent performance, and near universal acceptance. Well, Frabill is redefining the term, negating the element of time. Because with virtual certainty the new Frabill ICESUIT will become the benchmark for which all other cold weather outerwear is judged.
ICESUIT is a premium two-piece Jacket and Bibs outerwear system engineered unambiguously for the hardcore ice angler. It doesn’t pretend to be anything else. “Jack of all trades, master of none,” says ICESUIT creator Chris Leonard of the multitude of “cheap suits” churned out by companies way out of their element – and there are plenty of them out there. Leonard, a degreed engineer of ergonomics, designed ICESUIT from top to bottom based on his original Snosuit design, which remains the most intelligently engineered extreme cold outerwear of all time. So when Frabill decided to introduce ice fishing apparel, they brought in the uncontested leading expert on the subject. (Note: Frabill went a step further and acquired Snosuit, too. The premium garment now travels by the name Frabill FXE Snosuit.)
Using the Snosuit chassis on account of its unmatched ergonomic fit, Leonard riddled ice fishing gurus the likes of Brian “Bro” Brosdahl, Tony Roach, Tom Neustrom, Scott & Marty Glorvigen, Canada’s Jeff “Gussy” Gustafson and other experienced ice anglers about first how ice fishing outwear must perform, and then if given the opportunity, what other ice fishing specific features they’d like to add. Incredibly, master designer Leonard was able to achieve both.
Core features on both the Frabill ICESUIT Jacket and Bibs include rugged waterproof, windproof, and breathable shell material. Upping the ante, every – and we mean every – seam is sealed to guarantee waterproof performance. Fit is the other area where ICESUIT trumps everything else on the racks. The Jacket, for example, features articulated elbows that mirror the natural human form and flex in harmony with your every motion. Same goes for the Bibs. The seat and padded knees are fully articulated, fitting, as they say, like a glove. Sit or kneel, ICESUIT moves with you.
Notable amenities on the Jacket include “zoned” insulation, whereby 180 grams is used in the body to heat your core and 120 grams in the sleeves for unconstrained range of motion. (When’s the last time your forearm got cold anyway? Why add the bulkiness?) The Jacket also features unique characteristics like ultra tough reinforced elbows, extra tall collar to block howling winds, fully adjustable and removable hood with reinforced sun visor, and Frabill’s custom tackle box pocket with arctic lined fleece hand warming pockets nestled under generously sized cargo pockets.
Bib highlights include full-length leg zippers, which let you slip in and out effortlessly with boots on. The shoulder straps are bunker-gear style – comfortable, wide, elastic and fully adjustable. Typical wear areas, such as the knees and pant cuffs are super reinforced as well.
Again, quite simply, ICESUIT is the new de facto name in ice fishing outerwear. Try one on. You’ll feel what we mean.
