Guides from Todd Gessner Outdoors took Lake Park High School Bass Team members fishing in southern Illinois so they can learn more about the sport.

Ten high school anglers wanting to learn more about catching bass headed to southern Illinois this past Sunday.

Upon their arrival at the Rend Lake Resort, it took only minutes after check in for the boys to head to the docks and shorelines with rods and reels in hand.

On Monday and Tuesday, the Lake Park H.S. anglers along with their IHSA Bass Fishing Team Coach and assistant coaches met with Todd Gessner of Todd Gessner Outdoors .  Gessner’s guide service is affiliated with the Rend Lake Resort and is the only full time guide service in all of southern Illinois.

Gessner arranged for five of his guides to take the boys bass fishing for two days.   On Monday the guides took the young anlgers to Lake of Egypt.  That night Gessner showed the boys how to clean fish then had a southern Illinois fish fry and bonfire for them.  The boys had a great opportunity to learn a lot about fishing, some of the lakes involved in the IHSA circuit, and get one on one instruction from the guides.

On Monday, one of the guides showed the boys in his boat what it is like to catch and 8 pound 3 ounce largemouth bass at Lake of Egypt.  Needless to say, these kids are now pumped.

Tuesday, due to local conditions, it was best to return to Lake of Egypt.  Gessner reported that all of the boys caught fish. They all learned a lot and had a great time

Good luck to the Lake Park High School fishing team.  I hope you do well.
