To the best of my knowledge, her murderer has never been found and brought to justice. Whether it’s a situation of scared witnesses or overwhelmed police detectives, unsolved murders in Chicago seem to be the norm. Barbara’s is no exception.
My thoughts tend to turn to her memory around this time of year but had fallen out of the habit of laying flowers in front of her building. This year I decided to renew my floral tribute along with the other memorial items dedicated to her that usually pop up in the early spring.
I miss her. She was a good neighbor and a good person.
I’ll say this like I’ve said every year for the past eight years—will her murder ever be solved?
