An Imperfect Holiday

An Imperfect Holiday

I’ve resigned myself to the fact that I won’t have a perfectly styled home for the holidays.

Scratch that—it won’t even be painted.

Of course I had a grand plan.  The fireplace was to be taken out, walls were going to be patched and then I’d get most everything painted.

As the saying goes, the best laid plans of mice and men…

While the fireplace is gone and the cracks are patched, the painting  just isn’t going to happen.  At least before the holidays.

Hell, I’d even chosen the paint colors.

But the rub is I don’t know how to paint. I can’t afford to hire someone to paint. Most importantly no one—and I mean no one—is going to volunteer for a weekend to help me paint.

At least this close to the holidays.

So in a few weeks—yes Thanksgiving is that close—I’ll put up the tree with some crappy walls behind it.

After 14 years and an initial bad paint job by my developer, it’s time for a change.

While I’d love to have that picture perfect house for the holidays, I’d have to kill myself to meet my own timeline and expectations.

Sometimes a plan doesn’t come together and that’s o.k.

In time everything will get done—and I’m betting it will look exactly as it does in my minds eye.  Until then I’ll just have to look at my perfectly imperfect progress and digest that my home, like me, is a work in progress.

Just don’t take any pictures.
