Santana III was my favorite Santana album fifty years ago and remains so today

You’ve heard the saying the original is the best? It’s certainly true with the rock band Santana. It’s hard to believe that Santana began its musical journey more than five decades ago. Most of us saw them for the first time with their brilliant performance at Woodstock. The performers we remember from that day include... Read more »

It was quite an night in Georgia (Spencer Davis/Steve Winwood)
It was quite a night in Georgia. Democrats won both seats in run-off races and with that, they will control the Senate. It’s hard to explain exactly what and why it happened. Maybe it’s easier to explain it all in songs? Type your email address in the box and click the “create subscription” button. My... Read more »

"Moondance" was Van Morrison's third album. Between this and t l he earlier "Astral Weeks", he moved far away from "Brown Eyed Girl." Fifty years later, Morrison has produced forty-one studio albums and is still going strong.
If you’re from my generation, classic rock is probably your go-to genre of music. Yeah, you may try to pretend that you’re cool and hip enough to love newer types of music, but we always seem to come back to the songs and records that we loved when we were young. 1970 was a big year... Read more »

Woodstock at 50: Where are they now?

Michael Lang was the brains behind the original Woodstock Festival. Now 74, he's still involved in the promotion business. He produced Woodstock '94 & '99 and was involved in the attempt to have a fiftieth anniversary celebration.
This weekend marks the fiftieth anniversary of the Woodstock Festival. “3 days of Peace and Music!” For many involved in the event, it was the highlight of their lives. Others went on to lengthy lives and careers. Let’s have a look at what happened to some of Woodstock’s major figures: Related Post: Woodstock’s 50th anniversary-Three days... Read more »

Woodstock at 50: It's about the music

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/qxxoI8nJosE" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Richie Havens opened the concert. "Freedom"
When you think about Woodstock, what’s the first thing that comes to mind? It should be the music. There has never been an event where so many legendary artists performed. Thirty-three acts played over the three-plus days. The performances were relatively short; most ranging from forty-five minutes to one hour. The two exceptions were Jefferson Airplane and... Gary Clark Jr. at Chicago Blues Fest.
One of the best of the newer generation of guitarists.
On a Facebook music site, someone posed a question asking what was the best concert you saw this year? I saw about 20 shows this year. A few were memorable while others were a waste of time and money. These were the best I saw this year: Related Post: Stevie Nicks and the circle of... Read more »

Ravinia Festival 2017: Summer is almost here

The temperature is 20 degrees. There’s snow on the ground. But today is a sign that Summer is right around the corner because Ravinia has released their 2017 schedule. The Ravinia Festival, in north suburban Highland Park, has featured outdoor musical acts for more than one hundred years. The concerts feature all genres of music.... Read more »

Vinyl Records in Living Color

Dave Mason- Alone Together.
Mason's first album is known as much for the marble coloring as the music.

    Howard Moore

My so called friends think it's time to edit this section. After four years, they may be right, but don't tell them that. I'll deny it until they die! I can't believe I've been writing this blog for four years. It started as a health/wellness thing and over the years has morphed to include so many things that I don't know how to describe it anymore. I really thought this was going to be the final year of the blog but then Donald Trump came along. It looks like we're good for four more years..God help us all! Oh yeah...the biographical stuff. I'm not 60 anymore. The rest you can read about in the blog.
