The ten best albums from 1971

1971 was a special year in the world of popular/rock music. Some of the greatest acts of the classic rock era released their best and most influential work. For the last year, this column has run a series highlighting almost thirty albums from that year. The goal was to see how they held up after... Read more »

Stairway to Heaven is still legendary but what about the rest of Led Zeppelin IV fifty years later?

Stairway rules! Now going on half a century, it’s still a classic. Whenever you hear the song, it’s hard to turn it off. There have been plenty of times when I’ve parked the car and listened to the last five minutes or so before leaving. The tune has so many layers to it that you... Read more »

Classic albums from 1971 are now fifty years old. Are you still listening to them?

Pearl was Janis Joplin's final album. It was released months after her death.
1971 was a great year in the genre of classic rock. We still had artists from the British Invasion era making music, while at the same time we witnessed the start of the singer-songwriter era. There was a lot of something for everyone. The albums from that year will reach the fifty-year mark in 2021.... Read more »

The week in review: April 24-30

The final image of the last week in review was the death of Erin Moran. It took all of one day for her former Happy Days castmate Scott Baio to make this comment "You do drugs or drink, you're gonna die." Dude...I know you've had a contentious relationship with her through the years but your timing sucks. Show some compassion. You should be on your knees every day of your life thanking Joanie, Richie and the rest of the Cunningham family for whatever career you have. It's shit like this that kept you off the the White House guest list when even that nut job Ted Nugent got an invite. Man, I hope the cast of Charles in Charge is doing okay.
Every week there are a lot of little stories that occur. Are they important or quirky enough to devote a separate blog post? Maybe…maybe not. But if you put them together, it makes a fun look at the previous week…at least I think so. Hopefully you do, ¬†too because we’ll doing this each week for... Read more »

Stairway to Heaven
Songwriting credit is a subject that has had a lot of controversy throughout the history of rock music. There are many cases of bands fighting over who wrote what in a song. The issue has resurfaced again. A couple members of the band Spirit are suing Led Zeppelin for songwriting credits to the all time... Read more »

Good Times, Bad Times

I try very hard to keep my Parkinson’s stories on the light side. Who would want to read depressing news all the time? Who would want to write that all the time? But there is a serious side to this. I’ve heard stories from people who have had family members with Parkinson’s. It’s not pretty.... Read more »

Every five years or so I decide to update this section. I can't believe I've been doing this for close to ten years. The last time I did this I was close to sixty years old. Now I'm just a few months away from the big 7-ZERO. Scary AF!!! I'm pretty sure I won't be doing an update when I hit 80, but you never know. But until then, lets just be grateful.
