A year of being grandpa

September 13, 2020. One year ago today. My youngest daughter was almost nine months pregnant. Her due date was less than a week away. Dad was getting excited and concerned. Hey…she’s my baby so I’ll always be concerned. I sent her a text asking how she was doing. I also said since the due date... Read more »

How do you bond with a new grandchild during a pandemic?

How do you bond with a new grandchild during a pandemic?
The word on the street is that I have a new grandchild. Yep, it’s true. He just turned three months old on Sunday and he’s a very, VERY cute little boy. No prejudice on my part…he really is a cutie. I met him for the first time when he only four days old. He was... Read more »

I never met my paternal grandfather. He died in 1946. I was born in 1952. Missed him by six years. Circle of Life. My two daughters never met their paternal grandfather. He died in 1982. They were born in 1990 and 1992. Missed him by eight and ten years. Circle of Life.  I’ve been told... Read more »

What's the matter with kid's sports parents?

What's the matter with kid's sports parents?
There’s something about children’s organized sports that brings out the worst in normal people. I have two daughters who played softball and basketball in a suburban park district league. I coached ten of their teams. It was a lot of fun ninety per cent of the time. But then there was that other ten percent….and... Read more »

Shame on the parents doing the parent shaming

Shame on the parents doing the parent shaming
Raising children is a tough gig. You’re always on edge and worried about something. Being frazzled is a way of life. It never ends even when your children are grown. One of my daughters just drove from Los Angeles to Chicago in less than three days. I feel better now that she’s arrived safely. The... Read more »

I'm Not Losing A Daughter...Well, Yeah I Really Am

I'm Not Losing A Daughter...Well, Yeah I Really Am
It really happened. My daughter is now married. It was a beautiful day and weekend. It was also very emotionally draining. I hear that’s the way it’s suppose to be and I’m not a real wuss. Okay…maybe both. We’ve known this day has been coming for about a year and still it’s more than a... Read more »

My Daughter Is Getting Married And I'm Freaking Out

My Daughter Is Getting Married And I'm Freaking Out
Yep…my youngest daughter is getting married in four days and I’m not handling this very well. Sure, I’m excited and happy for her but cmon, this is my baby. In my mind she’s still the little girl I brought home from the hospital twenty-three years ago. Recently, I’ve seen people freaking out about their children’s... Read more »

I'm A Mommy Blogger Wannabe

I usually write about Parkinson’s Disease and pop music but I really want to be a mommy blogger!!  If you have children, they become your highest priority almost immediately after birth. When my oldest was born, it took about a minute for her to grab my finger and from that point everything else took a... Read more »

Kids! What's The Matter With Kids Today

To paraphrase someone…having children is God’s way of giving back to you, what you did to your parents…or something close to that. I’m not sure I’ve ever mentioned my darlings in this blog but there’s always a first. Today is the day. I have two daughters, ages 23 and 21. You seriously couldn’t ask for... Read more »

    Howard Moore

My so called friends think it's time to edit this section. After four years, they may be right, but don't tell them that. I'll deny it until they die! I can't believe I've been writing this blog for four years. It started as a health/wellness thing and over the years has morphed to include so many things that I don't know how to describe it anymore. I really thought this was going to be the final year of the blog but then Donald Trump came along. It looks like we're good for four more years..God help us all! Oh yeah...the biographical stuff. I'm not 60 anymore. The rest you can read about in the blog.
