Times, NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN….pffft. My feelings are hurting a little. Donald! 45! Dude!!! I’m chopped liver? And what about the rest of my colleagues at ChicagoNow? We write about you all the time…ALL. THE. TIME.
I especially love the ones that start with I never thought I’d write about politics and then they go off on you for 1000 words. I can’t even count the amount of times one of us have given you some pub, but you know…there’s no such thing as bad publicity, right?!
Mr. Prez, I just looked at my blog archives. I’ve written about you and your buddies thirteen times this years. 13!! THIRTEEN!! And we aren’t even two months into 2017. Add in what I wrote last year and we’re up to thirty-one posts about you. Man, if that doesn’t make me an Enemy of The American People, I don’t know what more I can do.
I mean, c’mon….I write a blog that’s labeled in the Health/Wellness category and I’m spending most of my time taking you on. Phew…you’re a tiring person. No wonder I need to leave town for a few days and not bring my laptop. After today, you’re safe until next week.
Enough snarkiness for now. Our President has said a lot of outrageous and dangerous things in the last couple of years. This is at the top of that list.
It’s not often that I agree with John McCain but he was right on today in an interview with Chuck Todd on today’s Meet The Press:
“I hate the press. I hate you especially,” McCain joked. “But the fact is we need you. We need a free press. We must have it. It’s vital. If you want to preserve — I’m very serious now — if you want to preserve democracy as we know it, you have to have a free and many times adversarial press,” McCain said. “And without it, I am afraid that we would lose so much of our individual liberties over time. That’s how dictators get started.”
Right on Senator. We thank you for your support. Anything else?
“They get started by suppressing free press,” McCain said of dictators. “In other words, a consolidation of power when you look at history, the first thing that dictators do is shut down the press. And I’m not saying that President Trump is trying to be a dictator. I’m just saying we need to learn the lessons of history.”
So maybe I’m not CNN, NBC or the failing New York Times. I don’t consider myself a journalist. But I am a writer/blogger and am part of the media…even if just a small part…and it’s our right to write about you and criticize you if we think you deserve it, without fear of repercussions from you.
I don’t know if you truly believe this Enemy of the American People thing or if it’s just part of your schtick but I’m happy to accept that title and will wear it proudly.
This was the first time I wrote about 45. I’ve changed my mind since then. I am scared.
