It Was 50 Years Ago Today: The Beatles Play Comiskey Park

Comiskey Park was home to the Chicago White Sox from 1910 through 1990.

1965 was a pretty good year for the Sox. They finished second in the American League to the Minnesota Twins. But the highlight at Comiskey for that year was two shows by The Beatles. That happened fifty years ago today….August 20, 1965.

The performances were at 3pm with an attendance of 25,000 fans. 37,000 people attended the 8pm show.

Tickets were priced at $2.50, $4.50 and $5.50.

This was the second Beatles performance in Chicago. They performed at the International Amphitheater in September 1964

They performed twelve songs and the tunes changed quite a bit from the first time. The early Beatles of I Want To Hold Your Hand and She Loves You was over and the Rubber Soul/Revolver era had yet to begin. The entire set list, in order, can be found in the gallery below.

Every five years or so I decide to update this section. I can't believe I've been doing this for close to ten years. The last time I did this I was close to sixty years old. Now I'm just a few months away from the big 7-ZERO. Scary AF!!! I'm pretty sure I won't be doing an update when I hit 80, but you never know. But until then, lets just be grateful.
