Hello from Charlottesville, Virginia! Home of the current North American Wine Bloggers Conference–yes, there is such a thing. This is our first trip to a WBC–and we are looking forward to meeting other bloggers, tasting new wines, and learning more about wine from Virginia.
The festivities began last night at an international wine tasting event, which featured wines from Bordeaux, Chile, Italy, South Africa, and Spain. Some of the wines that stood out were a 2010 Abadia de San Campio Albarino from Spain ($20), the 2010 Errazuriz Sauvignon Blanc from Chile ($15), and Voga’s sparkling Pinot Grigio (yes, sparkling) from Italy ($14). All these wines should be available in Chicago (we will get more specific retail information to you later). He Sips also really liked a White Burgundy from France and a Carignan from Chile.
Today, we will attend sessions about wine and wine blogging, participate in what’s known as “speed dating” for wine bloggers where companies pitch their wines to us and we have a few minutes to taste and live blog and tweet. So be sure to follow us on Twitter for live updates from the conference. Tonight we head to Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello for a wine reception! And tomorrow, we venture to Virginia wineries and taste local wines!
