Turnbull Wine Cellars: A Napa Vineyard You Should Know

Turnbull is one of our favorite wineries. He Sips fell in love with wine there. This summer, during our Napa trip, we had the pleasure of meeting winemaker Peter Heitz who let us barrel taste some of Turnbull’s famous cabs. We had so much fun with Peter that we missed tasting recently released wine from actual bottles.

Peter and the Turnbull team were nice enough to send us three bottles to taste.  The 2009 Sauvignon Blanc ($15), 2006 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon ($40), and 2007 Fortuna Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon ($60.)  As usual, they were all excellent.
The Sauvignon Blanc is a good, light, crisp white.  For the price, it’s hard to beat. The Cabernet Sauvignons are just what you look for in a Napa cab – big, full bodied, complex. All three are available on the Turnbull website, but also keep an eye out for them at your local wine shop.
During our visit, we had the opportunity to hang out in the barrel room with winemaker Peter Heitz, talk about wine and taste right out of the barrels.  This was one of the highlights of our trip.  Peter is a great guy and a great winemaker.  Here are a couple of videos of our chat.
