Readers and wine lovers, we leave for Napa on Thursday. We have a full itinerary, which we’ll post here before we leave. But before we go, I thought I’d share some personal stuff about us–and our love of wine.
Disclaimer: He Sips doesn’t know I’m writing this.
He Sips and I met at a bar; it wasn’t a wine bar, more of a cocktail lounge. When we met, he knew nothing about wine; in fact, he brought bottles of Two-Buck Chuck over to my house and I was a snob about it.
After five months of dating, however, we went to Napa for a friend’s wedding. And everything changed for He Sips.
I fell in love with wine in the Santa Ynez Valley in my early 20s, when I lived in LA and visited wine country often. He fell in love with wine in Napa in 2005 when I insisted that we go wine tasting the day before the wedding.
That’s all it took. One trip to Turnbull, a few sips of cabernet into it, I knew I had him. He was hooked. I remember him telling me later that day, buzzed on good wine, “I’m already picturing coming back here with you.”
This trip is that dream becoming reality.
Since 2005, we’ve been wine tasting together A LOT (Santa Ynez/Santa Barbara, Bordeaux, Rioja, Texas Hill Country, Long Island), but we haven’t been back to Napa.
Five years later, we’re writing a wine blog together–and we get to go back to the place we fell in love. Only this time, we’ll be sharing the trip with you.
Our schedule is packed, but check our page every day for pictures and updates, with longer posts to follow when we return to Chicago. The best way to follow the trip is to follow us on Twitter (hesipsshesips).
Here’s a picture of us in San Fransisco in 2005 (the Napa photos from the same trip are on a broken back-up drive).
