Furiously Ranking All Seven Fast & Furious Movies

About a month ago, I took it upon myself to re-watch all six previous films in the Fast & Furious franchise in preparation for this weekend’s much-anticipated (by me at least) release of Furious 7.

The Fast & Furious movies aren’t perfect, and all of them are dumb in varying degrees, but I find myself continually impressed with how far they’ve come since the first film in 2001, and with what an intricate, dense mythology the filmmakers have constructed over the course of the last 3-4 movies.  Everything matters in the Fast & Furious universe, and I respect that.

The Fast & Furious movies are also notable for their odd titles, highly accomplished stunts, global settings, relative lack of overuse of CGI, and the broad spectrum of race and gender represented on screen.  The films have a huge respect for the audience, and each installment tries to top the last.  How many other franchises can claim to be at their peak commercial power by the 7th installment?  It’s a rarity.

So, in honor of Furious 7, I’m going to take on the Herculean task of ranking each Fast & Furious film in order from worst to best.  Feel free to weigh in with your own (less definitive) rankings in the comments section below.
