Food Friday - Super Smoothies

Food Friday - Super Smoothies
Smoothies are classiest when served in a Bud Lite glass.

I don’t know if Food Friday is going to be a regular Friday thing here, or just a THIS Friday thing, but whatever. I made a delicious smoothie today and I want to remember the ingredients, so I’m blogging them 🙂

I often make the kids smoothies because sometimes it’s hard to gauge just how many vegetables landed in their mouths on any given day. At least with a smoothie, I know I can hide some kale or spinach all up in there.

My standard smoothie is adapted from the America’s Test Kitchen green book, which you should all buy just so you’ll know what I’m talking about half the time.

Here’s the ingredient list (in order). Pulse a few times and then blend like crazy.

  • freshly squeezed orange juice (about a cup)
  • whole milk yogurt (1/4 cup)
  • banana
  • 1/2 a large apple (I usually have large apples, so if your apples are small…)
  • handful of kale or spinach
  • tablespoon of ground flax seeds
  • ice

Today I had no bananas or yogurt on hand, so this is what I made:

  • freshly squeezed orange juice
  • almond milk (1/2 cup)
  • half of an avocado
  • 3/4 of a large apple, I don’t know why
  • squeeze of lemon juice
  • handful of baby spinach
  • tablespoon of ground flax seeds
  • ice

The smoothie came out super thick and delicious.

What’s your favorite smoothie recipe?
