Well, this is fun … the weekend after our Evening with the Worms Ed Hubbard’s been invited to be a speaker at another conference down at The Plant, this one being the Midwest Urban Farmers Summit. Here’s the main theme of the event:
It’s an exciting time for urban farming in Chicago. A string of new projects and opportunities, not the least of which being the 13 square-mile “urban farming district” currently materializing on the South Side, stand as firm proof that farming has its place here and in urban centers across the region for years to come.
Needless to say, this is a huge element in the “Greening of Chicago”, with that farm district greatly re-making much of the south side!
One thing that I found hilarious, though, is that worms (Ed will be talking about the Nature’s Little Recyclers vermiculture operation) are classified as “livestock” … although I somehow doubt there’s a “Worm Industry Council” or “Worm Board” over at the NLSMB!
This sounds like it’s going to be a great weekend, so you might consider coming out for it. We’re hoping to do a bunch of interviews and features from there, so we’re looking forward to it!
