This is a career seminar/job fair you don’t want to miss!  It’s on Wednesday, April 6th at Navy Pier (600 East Grand Avenue) from 10am-2pm, with an early morning pre-registered class at 8:30 ($10 fee) if you are interested in getting a head start in networking for a job.

Hosted by Women for Hire, a NY career firm owned by Tory Johnson, it appears to be a well-organized event with many resources.  A few caveats are you must be dressed in business attire and a resume is required for admission.  Since this is a job fair environment you would expect this, yet some job candidate’s do come unprepared.

The Expo will be covering topics including:  Ramping Up Your Resume with resume expert, Lauren Milligan of ResuMAYDAY, where she will be discussing what makes for a good resume, clinical psychologist, Sander Marcus will be speaking about showing your value in an interview, and Harriet Di Cerbo, former HR executive, has tips on dealing with the fear in an interview and letting your own talents shine.

I will also be speaking at this event about “Finding the Hidden Job Market” and using social media to build your own personal brand.  Wal-Mart is sponsoring a Mentor Match program where attendees will benefit from a complimentary one-one “speed mentoring” session.  The Toastmasters International District 30 will be also hosting a program where career professionals will be working with attendees on their “perfect pitch”.

In addition to the speakers and workshops, there are also a number of prominent companies that will be exhibiting at this event, including: Accenture, Amtrack, Aon, Enterprise Holdings, Home Depot, New York Life, Newark, RCN, Redbox, Walgreens and Wal-Mart.  There are a number of other companies who will also be present.

This event is a great opportunity to get a “jump start” on your job search.  I would highly recommend that if you are in the job market that you attend.  For more information on the program check out” http://womenforhire.com/career expos/spring 2011/chicago/  or go directly to their web-site at www://womenforhire.com.

Look forward to meeting you at the conference.  Please come by and introduce yourself. Remember to smile frequently and have fun!
