This GEEKend: Anime World Expos and Lake Count-i-Con

I’m having a hard time typing because my geek guy has a friend over. They are watching Dune- the David Lynch movie- at an unimaginable volume. I dislike the film. The husband, however, loves it deeply and without irony. I… do not understand. Aaaaagh!! Anyway, my Dragon Con costumes are nearing completion. Yuna just needs some... Read more »

This Thanksgiving GEEKend: Chicago TARDIS 2014

Happy Thanksgiving, geeks! As I write this, I have finished my dinner, surrounded by family and friends. I am thankful, but also just FULL. I really want to sleep it off all weekend. If you’re a Doctor Who fan, though, this is NOT the time to relax and digest. Get ready for Chicago TARDIS 2014.... Read more »

Windycon 41 RECAP: Thank you, thank you, thank you

Little Red Riding Hood was BY FAR the most popular character at the convention. Even better, almost all of them came with wolf pups.
I’m having a tough time starting my recap of Windycon 41. The weekend was a whirlwind. Never before have I worked so hard at a convention. I was Fan Guest of Honor, and wow- being the ultimate fan is FUN. I arrived at the Westin Lombard on Thursday, November 13th. I checked in, and immediately learned... Read more »

This GEEKend: Windycon, Blue Box Cafe, The Aurora Project, and Berlin

This GEEKend: Dashcon, Pocket Con, and the Video Game Summit

I wasn’t going to blog this GEEKend.  I woke up hung over, got a haircut, and then went back to sleep for 4 more hours.  Now, there’s a SUPER-loud 8th grade graduation going on next door… or, at least I hope they’re 8th graders.  If these are high school kids, I’m older than I thought!... Chicago TARDIS 2013 Recap: Doctor Who Shows No Signs of Aging

An incredible Ten hanging out with his (former?) enemy, Cassandra. It was nice to see them putting their differences aside.
I’m just going to come right out and say it: last weekend’s Chicago TARDIS was the best I’ve been to.  Granted, I’ve only been going for three years, but the convention was clearly stepping up its game- it had to.  Doctor Who just celebrated its 50th anniversary.  This milestone brought fans to the Westin Lombard... This GEEKend: WolfCon and Chicago TARDIS

Happy Thanksgiving, geeks!  I woke up early to write so that I could make it out to my parents’ house later.  I have the Macy’s parade and subsequent dog show on TV- just two of many annual traditions. The Chicago geek community has two Thanksgiving traditions of its own: WolfCon and Chicago TARDIS.  Both are... Read more »

Windycon 40: A Huge Sci-Fi Convention Anniversary this Weekend

I’ve had quite the experience with Windycon 40, and it hasn’t even started yet!  Apparently, in 40 years of existence, the event has never given out press passes.  This has resulted in some long waits and longer e-mails.  Thankfully, everything is clear now. Geek Girl Jess and I will be at at Windycon tomorrow, November... Read more »

Chicago TARDIS 2012 Recap: This Doctor Who Con is the Real McCoy!

EXTERMINATE!! I got to ride inside of these once. It was... well, it was very small.
Thank you, everyone, for the huge response to my Kollision Con coverage.  Kollision wasn’t the only game in town on Thanksgiving weekend, though!  Hundreds of Doctor Who fans gathered for Chicago TARDIS 2012.  The British sci-fi hit is more popular than ever in its 49th year.  Thus, the Westin Lombard welcomed fans of all ages... This GEEKend: WindyCon, Chicago's Oldest Sci-Fi Convention

Just when you thought Halloween was over, a sci-fi convention pops up with a Zombie theme.  WindyCon is Chicagoland’s oldest sci-fi con, celebrating 39 years this weekend.  It’s already underway at the Westin Lombard. For being such an old event, it doesn’t seem like it will be packed; the crafting panels limit themselves to only 8... Read more »
