Years ago, I got my first case of food poisoning. I ate a bad burger at Chili’s, went to a cute boy’s house, and proceeded to throw up 8 times in his apartment. That was our “first date.”
The gent is my husband now, so I guess things work out. …Mostly. My stomach was never the same. Thanks to this incident, my body now sees “Let’s vomit!” as the solution for everything.
Long story short, I’ve had a bad tummy week. I’m going to sit here, stomach rumbling, hoping I feel better for the “Weird Al” Yankovic show. Food? Flu? Who knows? You’d all better just go to this GEEKend’s events on my behalf:
FRIDAY, JUNE 26th, 2015:
The Nerdologues High Five Party – My buddies The Nerdologues have been around for five years. They’re so talented, what with their comedy, music, podcasting, card game… JEEZ. LEAVE SOME SUCCESS FOR THE REST OF US. If you enjoy The Nerdologues, you might also enjoy grilling and gaming with them. If you aren’t already their fan, this party probably isn’t for you. I just wanted to mention this shindig so I’d sound cool. (Friday, June 26th, 2015. 7PM. Cards Against Humanity Theatre, 1917 N. Elston. Please RSVP and bring food to share.)
Acrobatica Infiniti – I’ve been featuring this nerd circus pretty often. Their gala show was a big success. I was even brought on stage for a trick, much to my confusion and terror. I’m happy to see Acrobatica Infiniti booking more gigs. They have 3 “After Dark” dates scheduled. Try to make it to one! From a rope-climbing Wonder Woman to a hoop spinning Sailor Moon, the characters have talent and heart. …Just don’t sit on the end in a brightly-colored dress if you don’t want to suddenly be on a date with the Ringmaster. ;p (Friday, June 26th, 2015. Midnight. Uptown Underground, 4713 N. Broadway. $25-35. Buy tickets HERE. Facebook * Twitter)
SATURDAY, JUNE 27th, 2015:
Arda University – The best cosplay wig brand out there is Arda. …and yes, I thought that before Geek Girl Jess started working there. Arda offers more colors at lower prices than “back in my day.” Heat resistant fibers weren’t a thing in 2001, either, but that’s another blog post.
Yet another cool thing from this company is Arda University. Experts teach wig styling and costuming to locals. Both options are being lead on Saturday by Kyle and Melinda Mathis. Get educated! (Saturday, June 27th, 2015. Wigs at 1PM, costumes at 2:30 PM. Arda Wigs, 1401 W. Wabansia. $20-55. Buy wig tickets HERE, costume workshop tickets HERE. Official site * Twitter)
Mighty Con/Du Page Comic Con – Mighty Con’s events have made previous appearances in Geek Girl Chicago. I’ve gone to the Du Page iteration before, and it was pretty cool. It’s basically a trade show. There are rows and rows of comics to buy, ALL the Pop figures, and a few hidden gems. I believe my Ryoko statue from Tenchi Muyo came from this event. I’m particularly excited for Philo Barnhart, Disney artist from The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast. (Saturday, June 27th, and Sunday, June 28th, 2015. DuPage County Fair Grounds, 2015 Manchester Rd., Wheaton. Kids FREE, adults $10-15. Facebook.)
My Little Pony Fair – Fellow CN blogger Melanie Bolen has been getting her ponies ready all week. She’s selling at the My Little Pony Fair. Modern Bronies and Pegasisters can meet the voice of Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy (though I know her as Young AndrAIa from Reboot.) Children of the 80s can meet movers and shakers from Hasbro. The Chicago area even has its own MLP-themed band: The Shake Ups in Ponyville. I have to get them for Rising Stars of Geek Rock! (Saturday, June 27th and Sunday, June 28th, 2015. 10AM-5PM. Hyatt Regency Schaumburg, 1800 E. Golf Rd., Schaumburg. $25. Official Site * Facebook * Twitter)
If you’ll be at any of these events, share below! Now, I will continue sitting in place. *Urp~* Good evening to you, gentle reader.
