For the first time ever, I’m splitting Geek Girl Chicago’s convention coverage into several parts. After just one day at C2E2 2014, I have enough photos to rival most previous galleries. I want to make sure every cosplayer I meet gets recognized. Thus, GGC‘s weekend at the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo will be presented as a trilogy.
Today is Friday. Happy Friday! C2E2 opened its doors at 10AM. My carpool arrived around lunch time. I didn’t intend on cosplaying, but once I heard a friend was going as Booker DeWitt, I donned Elizabeth from BioShock Infinite. My other companions for the day were Gaige from Borderlands 2 and a Nyancat-themed businessman (a “Business Nyan.”)
Juggling photography and cosplay was pretty tough. Every time someone wanted a BioShock pic, I had to unload my camera onto a friend. In turn, whenever I tried to get a photo of anybody, I was reminded that I couldn’t bend at the waist. Yikes. When will I learn??
I had planned on seeing several panels, but as usual, missed all of them. I heard positive things about The Nerdologues and Stan Lee. All of my time was spent walking the show floor. I haven’t even set foot into the Artists’ Alley yet- I suppose that’s for tomorrow.
C2E2, thus far, has been a success. The aisles are wide, so I didn’t have trouble navigating in-costume. There are several cool performance spaces, including the trendy Twitch Stage. The parking price is so-so, but there are helpful shuttle buses from the Red Line. There’s even a day-planning phone app that I’ve been, well, failing to obey. <3
My only issues have been the ones I see at every con- expensive food, and the VERY occasional fanboy who’s collecting photos of ladies, ladies, ladies. The vast majority of the convention today was polite and TONS of fun. I didn’t even have to wait in line for my badge. 🙂
In the end, I met some VERY enthusiastic readers, saw two people I thought I’d never see again in my lifetime, and scored an Avatar: The Last Airbender artbook. Can’t wait to do it all again tomorrow! Please enjoy Friday’s photos, and post below if I’ve yet to get your photograph.
