Product Review: Avengers Cologne by JADS International

As you may know from my Twitter, gentle reader, I’ve been hard at work on cosplay for C2E2.  Tonight, I oh-so-gracefully RUINED my entire Elizabeth jacket with my serger.  I freaked- full on panic attack- so I guess it’s time for a sewing break.  While I decompress, here’s a long-anticipated product review:  Avengers Cologne by JADS International.

I discovered this company at one of Chicago’s big conventions in 2012.  JADS International is known for geeky scents, from Pon Farr perfume to Lando cologne.  They were kind enough to send me some Avengers samples last month.  Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Black Widow, Nick Fury, and even Loki each have their own scent- fun!  Here are my thoughts:

Full Line of Avengers Cologne by JADS International

Packaging:  The art on each box is character-specific.  Most of the bottles inside are identical, but Loki’s Mischief is a clever standout; the curved glass really captures the Trickster spirit.  Nick Fury’s Infinity Formula is also in a fancier, frosted vessel.

Each product has some super-macho text on the back.  Whoever wrote this stuff has the best job in the world.  For example, Captain America’s Patriot claims to be for “the confident, stand-up-to-bullies, hard working average Joe in every man.”  …OK, I guess I can get behind that, particularly if you’re a Cap fan.  However, the slogan “Be Angry” was a bad call.  No girl wants anything to do with the guy who lives by that mantra.  Yikes.

Price:  The JADS International website sells each bottle for $19.99 + s/h.  You can find individual bottles cheaper on Amazon, but the official source might be best if you’re looking for a convenient set.  The 20-dollar mark is a solid price for a gift.  I’d certainly buy one of these as a cute surprise for a Marvel fan, but perhaps not for use as an everyday cologne.  Here’s why…

Scents: I must reference the old saying, “You get what you pay for.”  These are novelty colognes, not high-end, so they come on strong- even chemical.  They also won’t last a full work day (my tests lasted about 3 hours).  I did have two favorites:  Iron Man’s Mark VII and Captain America’s Patriot.  I could see a geek guy wearing these in a casual group setting- a trip to the comic shop or local barcade.

…but don’t take my word for it!  To get a wide spectrum of feedback, I had some friends over.  They offered their thoughts immediately after applying the products, then again after their choices had time to settle.  The following opinions were provided by:  Jeffrey G, Stephen P, Terri L, Eric P, Clayton F, Zoran G, myself, and others. Click through the gallery for quotes on each specific product, along with a rating out of 5.

Thanks to JADS International for the opportunity!
