This GEEKend: Midwestria, a My Little Pony Convention

It’s no secret that I adore My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.  At all times, some portion of my brain is thinking about the show, its Flash-based art, and characters*.  I’m not alone, either.  MLP:FiM has a large adult audience.  Bronies, pegasisters… read on.

This weekend, Chicago is premiering an all-new, all-pony convention: Midwestria.

Midwestria won’t be in Chicago-proper.  It’s out at Pheasant Run in St. Charles, but fans who make the journey will be rewarded with a truly ponyriffic experience!  The guest list features three writers from the show.  Aside from the typical dealers’ room, costume contest, and panels, the programming schedule includes moments pulled directly from Ponyville.  Here are three:

1. The Grand Galloping Gala – A formal dance that’s a staple in the MLP universe.  It even has its own song.

2. The Running of the Leaves – A foot race originally seen in the ep Fall Weather Friends, this version is a 5k for charity.  Register here.  Minimum donation is $15 to benefit local equine therapy.

3. Iron Pony Competition – A contest of strength, speed, and style, this multi-faceted event features hay bale-throwing, running, and more.

Geek Girl Jess will be there taking photos- look for the Queen Chrysalis cosplay.  I’ll be in Wisconsin, pretty much just being jealous.   Have fun, everypony!!

Mascot Ponies!

Midwestria – September 14th-16th.  Pheasant Run, 4051 E. Main St., St. Charles.  $10-45.

*Big McIntosh and Cheerilee were meant for each other, you guys.
