Are White Sox Prospects Age Appropriate?

Recently I had a discussion about the state of the White Sox system and the age of prospects at certain levels was one of the points of contention. A number of Sox farmhands are off to hot starts in leagues where they are older than the competition. Obviously, it’s early in the year so to... Read more »

White Sox System Breakdown: Relievers

Chris Sale created a lot of buzz by shooting through the minors in basically no time at all and fooling numerous Major League hitters. FutureSox Prospects of the Month: July 2010

With rookie ball in full stride there is a lot of competition for the best prospects of the month. Top 25 Review: 25-21

Another reliever moved to a rotation this year. Jones had his best season as a pro last year, but as a reliever. He was used primarily as a starter his previous two years as a professional. Jones profiles as a reliever because of his fastball-curveball combination, but consistency has been his problem. His strikeout numbers have been down with Winston-Salem dating back to last year out of the bullpen. This year in hitter friendly BB&T Ballpark he has 59 K and 33 BB for a 4.78 ERA in 75.1 IP. It will be interesting to see how his stuff translates back to the bullpen in the future, but these numbers are not what many expected of him. (Photo credit: Cristine Maybourne/Winston-Salem Dash)
A year ago around this time I took a look at how our top 25 prospects performed through the first couple months of the season. It’s time to do the same for this year’s top 25, starting with the bottom five of the list.
