Scouting report

Originally an infielder, Molina got his first crack at being a pro pitcher at 19. In three years as a reliever he succeeded based on impeccable control. In 2011 the Blue Jays made him a starting pitcher and he posted career best strikeout rates and maintained good control after earning a midseason promotion to AA. There he posted stupefying numbers (22 IP, 33 K, 2 BB, 0.41 ERA) in five starts. The problem is that Molina's stuff doesn't rate out above average. In 2012 opponents hit .317 against him while pitching mostly for AA Birmingham (though it was later reported a nagging arm issue may have contributed). Molina features a fastball that hovers around 90, a good splitter, a solid change and a below average curveball. His command could keep him as a possible back end starter, but he will need to develop some movement on his fastball. Another injury in 2013 pushed back his ETA even further and he pitched mostly out of the bullpen. At AA for a fourth go in 2014, Molina's peripherals actually looked pretty good working exclusively from the pen, but turning 26 for 2015 there's not much hope here.
