Scouting report

With Petricka, it all starts with his velocity. He has a mid 90's fastball and held it deep into games as a starter. He also features a decent curveball that has shown improvement and a usable change. In his final year of college he struck out 113 in 100.2 innings, however, he walked 47 batters. He had issues repeating his delivery and his control has remained inconsistent as a pro. Petricka's secondary pitches aren't as good as his fastball, leading many to believe his future was in the bullpen from before the Sox drafted him. In 2013 he finally made the move to the 'pen and earned a promotion from AA to AAA after positive results. Petricka, who had Tommy John Surgery in 2007, had mediocre results as a starter mainly due do a lack of control. In 2012, he was promoted to AA despite a subpar showing at A+ (5.33 ERA, .284 AvgA, 5.0 BB/9, 9.1 K/9), and did even worse there (5.46 ERA, .290 AvgA, 5.5 BB/9, 4.2 K/9). As a reliever, his control has improved while his K rate has maintained and was able to make his Major League debut. He has a slightly higher upside than most relievers, but doesn't possess closer stuff.
