With most of the affiliates off yesterday, the system was good for a split as the Knights lost but Great Falls dominated Helena. The Voyagers went on a hit parade that saw recent draftees Alex Call, Jameson Fisher, and Aaron Schnurbusch all make good early impressions.
Chris Volstad pitched a solid game for the Knights, going 6.1 innings and surrendering just two earned runs. His quality start wasn’t enough to get Charlotte a win though as the offense had just five hits on the night. Jerry Sands and Leury Garcia notched a couple hits but Nicky Delmonico had the best evening at the plate, hitting his 13th homer of the season. Familiar face Tommy Kahnle got the loss. He had spotty control over a 1.2 inning effort and issued a bases loaded walk to give Durham a true walk-off win.
Tyler Danish goes to the hill tonight in an attempt to keep Durham in check.
Tony Rizzotti had a tough outing for Great Falls, who gave up four earned runs and issued three walks over just two innings pitched. However, the story of the night was an explosive offense. The team totaled 15 hits with almost every bat getting in on the action. The White Sox’s 2016 3rd rounder Alex Call went 1-for-4, with a home run and two RBIs. Jameson Fisher, picked a round after Call in ’16, went 2-for-4. Aaron Schnurbusch was taken in 28th round in this year’s draft, but he’s an imposing force physically and went 3-for-6 with a triple and three RBIs.
So overall a strong night for recent White Sox draftees. Not to be outdone by new faces in the organization, 2015 6th rounder Corey Zangari had arguably the best night of his year, going 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a walk.
The Voyager’s starter for tonight’s game is listed as TBD.
