The Charlotte offense sputtered with runners in scoring position (1 for 11) and were beaten soundly for the second consecutive game by the Syracuse Chiefs. Journeyman starter Chris Volstad allowed five runs (four earned) on eight hits over six innings to take the loss. Tyler Barnette struggled in relief of Volstad, allowing three runs over his two innings.
Different game, same story as Tim Anderson collected another two hits and a walk to keep up his torrid pace in May. Anderson’s walk was his 8th in the month of May, which nearly equals his walk total (9) during his entire 2014 season. Jason Bourgeois went 2-4 with a double and a steal and actually lowered his batting average with the Knights from .565 to .556. Jason Coats added a double and Nicky Delmonico drove in a run with a single for his first AAA hit.
The Knights will send Anthony Ranaudo to the mound to attempt to salvage the series finale with a win.
Courtney Hawkins doubled three times and Tyler Danish spun another quality start but it was not enough as the Pensacola Blue Wahoos defeated the Barons on Wednesday. Hawkins raised his average over 30 points thanks to the onslaught and hopefully this is the beginning of a streak for the young slugger.
Tyler Danish allowed three runs to score over seven innings while striking out three. Danish has had a solid but unspectacular start to the season, compiling a 4.08 ERA over 64 innings.
The Barons continue their series with Pensacola on Thursday as they send Jordan Guerrero to the hill.
Spencer Adams allowed five runs to score and the Dash fell just short in a loss to the Frederick Keys. Adams gave up ten hits during his five innings of work while walking two and striking out three.
The Dash offense had 11 hits and none were bigger than catcher Brett Austin‘s home run. Austin had a great day at the plate, going 1-2 with the aforementioned home run and two walks.
The Dash will look to avoid the sweep on Thursday with Brandon Brennan getting the start.
The Intimidators exploded for twelve runs, led by second baseman Grant Massey who went 3-5 with a triple, double, and three RBI’s. Third baseman Cody Daily also added three hits and a walk and Johan Cruz blasted his 2nd home run of the season in the rout.
Starter Johnathan Frebis was the lucky recipient of all this run support and cruised over six innings, only allowing one run on three hits. Brannon Easterling had an excellent relief appearance, striking out two over two perfect innings to finish the game.
The Intimidators return home to face Asheville with Luis Martinez getting the start.
