White Sox Minor League Recap 5/17/2016: Anderson pounds out three hits and Thompson throws six one-hit innings

Rochester 9, Charlotte 3

Starter Chris Beck was roughed up as he gave up five runs over just three innings to take the loss. Reliever Tyler Barnette had similar struggles, giving up two runs over his two frames. However, Terance Marin did a admirable job in a cleanup role, tossing the remaining five innings and only giving up two more runs.

Tim Anderson continues to swing a hot bat, as he went 3-5 and swiped his 9th bag of the season. Anderson is hitting .468 over his last ten games and has raised his season average from .230 all the way up to .297 over that span. First baseman Travis Ishikawa went 2-4 with and hit his fifth home run of the season. Catcher Omar Narvaez, who is the next man up if something were to happen to Alex Avila or Dioner Navarro, had an excellent game, going 2-2 with a double and two walks.

The Knights will send Jacob Turner to the mound for the finale of the series on Wednesday.

Tennessee 9, Birmingham 4

Reliever Kyle Hansen allowed five runs to score in his 1.2 innings as Tennessee raced away from the Barons late. Starter David Holmberg allowed four runs to score over six innings while allowing eight hits.

Jake Peter had a fantastic game, going 2-3 with a solo home run and two walks. Peter, who has played at 3B, 2B, and 1B this season, is hitting an impressive .314/.375/.445. Nicky Delmonico went 1-4 with a two-run double.

The Barons will send southpaw Blair Walters to the mound for the finale of this four game series.

Winston-Salem’s game versus Myrtle Beach was postponed and they will play a doubleheader Wednesday with Thad Lowry and Andre Wheeler as the announced starters.

Greensboro 10, Kannapolis 3

A shaky Kannapolis bullpen spoiled a spectacular  start from Zach Thompson, as two relievers combined to allow seven runs to score over the last three innings. Thompson only allowed one hit over six innings, striking out eight batters. The 22 year-old former 5th round pick is having a great season, posting a 3.27 ERA and 42 strikeouts in 41.1 innings pitched.

The Kannapolis offense only managed six hits, but catcher Seby Zavala homered and walked and Cody Daily went 1-2 with two walks to lead the offense.

Rob, would you mind giving me your opinion on something that's been bugging me for a long time? Do you think Ozzie Guillen is blackballed from MLB, and do you think it is due to a possible drinking problem?
As good a manager as he is I just don't think his 'outspoken' tendencies are reason enough to prevent him from being someones first base coach. No one interviews the first base coach anyway. My theory that he has a drinking problem is my own conjecture and I don't have any proof or even rumors. Yet, something tells me this is a problem for him based on everything else I have read (between the lines). Also, I am a recovering alcoholic and sometimes we can 'smell our own'. Please let me know what you think. I want him back in the league.
