Tim Anderson and Leury Garcia helped spark the Knights offense as the two middle infielders each went 3-5 with an RBI. Anderson had a double and three runs scored, while Garcia swiped two bases. Travis Ishikawa provided plenty of support going 1-4 with a three run blast. Jason Coats, Andy Parrino and Jacob May each had a single.
Terance Marin turned in a strong start – going seven strong innings of three run ball, scattering eight hits. He walked two batters and struck out no one, but kept his team in the game. Matt Purke went 0.2 innings and allowed a hit, a run, a walk, and a strikeout. Michael Ynoa came in for the four-out save.
Chris Beck takes the mound for the Knights today.
Eddy Alvarez continued to heat up as he, Eudy Pina, Trey Michalczewski and Joey DeMichele all notched two hits en route to victory. DeMichele’s hitting included a double and a triple. Alvarez, Pina, Michalczewski all had RBIs in addition to Nicky Delmonico (RBI double) and Chris O’Dowd. Keenyn Walker went 1-4 and stole his ninth base this season.
Carson Fulmer had an erratic start as the righty gave up four runs in four innings on four hits and an astounding eight walks while only striking out three. He danced around some trouble in his first 3 innings, before running into bigger troubles in the fourth and being pulled two batters into the 5th. James Dykstra picked up the slack by throwing 3.1 shutout innings before getting the ball to Matt Lollis for the last 1.2 innings of work.
David Holmberg will go next for the Barons.
The recently demoted Adam Engel had a good day at the plate as he went 2-5 with a double, run scored and an RBI. Louie Lechich went 1-4 with two RBIs and Hunter Jones had an RBI of his own. Marcus Davis went 2-4 with a walk and Brett Austin and Cleuluis Rondon each recorded hits.
Converted reliever Matt Cooper continued to impress as Cooper went seven innings, allowing only one run on five hits while striking out an astounding nine batters and walking none. Cooper has struck out at least a batter per inning in all of his seven starts in 2016. He also leads the Carolina League with 50 strikeouts, and is third in all of Minor League Baseball in that category.
Thaddius Lowry will be looking to keep the Dash rolling.
Zach Thompson will take the mound for the Intimidators, who had Wednesday off.
