White Sox Minor League Recap 7/18/2015: Great pitching in A ball

NOTE: We’ll have a separate write-up of the AZL game and Carson Fulmer‘s debut…

Norfolk 4, Charlotte 3

In a 15 inning game that saw the Knights take 52 at bats, Charlotte could only get 10 hits and three runs. Micah Johnson and Leury Garcia each went 2-6, with Johnson walking and launching a home run. Matt Tuiasosopo went 1-4 with a home run and three walks while Jason Coats, 0-7, had the third RBI. Johnson and Trayce Thompson stole their 23rd and 11th bases respectively.

Hector Noesi made the start and went five innings of one run ball with four strikeouts while Zach Phillips blew the save. Onelki Garcia then proceeded to strikeout five over three innings, but Jarrett Casey took the loss allowing a run in 2.1 innings pitched.

Penascola 3, Birmingham 1

Tim Crabbe had a strong start for the Barons, only giving up one earned run in five innings and struck out five batters. The offense was only able to muster one run off of ten hits. Tim Anderson and Rob Brantly each went 2-4. Danny Hayes had the lone RBI and Nick Delmonico scored that run, going 1-4.

Winston-Salem 6, Carolina 1

The Dash offense was powered by Tyler Williams, who went 3-4 with a double, triple and two RBIs.  Celuluis Rondon went 1-3 and had two RBIs of his own. Jake Peter and Keon Barnum each logged two hits, with Barnum registering an RBI and a walk. Nate Jones started the game for rehab purposes and threw a perfect inning while Brian Clark pitched five innings of “relief” to pick up the victory.

Kannapolis 1, Hagerstown 0

Eddy Alvarez went 2-4 with a triple and scored the lone run, an RBI from Mason Robbins in the fifth inning. Both Louie Lechich and Ryan Leonards each had a double. The pitching was led by Zach Thompson, who only allowed one hit in six innings, striking out four. David Trexler had his sixth save by throwing a perfect ninth where he struck out the side.

Great Falls 13, Idaho Falls 6

The Voyagers piled on the runs behind 15 hits. Landon Lassiter had five RBIs from the leadoff spot, going 2-5 with a triple and a walk. Zach Fish went 2-6 with a homer (his fourth in three games) and three RBIs. Dante Flores was 2-5 with an RBI and Victor Velasquez was 3-5 with a double and Joxelier Garcia was 1-3 with two walks, a double and two runs.

Evin Einhardt had the start for the voyagers and went five strong innings of only allowing one run, though he did walk four. Dylan Barrow allowed two runs in his inning of work and Ryan Hinchley allowed three in 1.2 innings. Mike Gomez went scoreless to close out the game.

AZL White Sox 16, AZL Angels 8

The big story here is Carson Fulmer starting this game, and we’ll have a separate recap of that game with a few in-person reports.
