White Sox Minor League Recap 6/4/2015: Barons surge past the Shuckers

Durham 4, Charlotte 1

The Knights offense was mostly suppressed, aside from Jason Coats, who continues to swing a hot bat. Coats went 2-3 with a double and a walk while scoring the Knights only run on Matt Davidson single. Starter Sean Haviland threw five innings, striking out six while allowing no walks, but he did give up three runs on seven hits. Relievers Miguel Chalas and Zach Phillips threw three innings in relief of Haviland, allowing one run. Something of note, infamous former White Sox reliever Ronald Belisario closed the game for the Durham Bulls and earned his 14th save.

Birmingham 6, Biloxi 4

The Barons scored four runs in the bottom of the 8th to surge past the Biloxi Shuckers on Thursday. Starter Frankie Montas threw five shutout innings, only allowing five hits and two walks while striking out six. Montas lowered his ERA to 2.87 on the season and has has only allowed one run over past 12 innings. Outfielder Brian Fletcher went 3-4 with a double but did commit an error in the field. Catcher Rob Brantly, who had been slumping entering the game, went 3-4 with a triple to raise his batting average nearly 100 points to .240. First baseman Danny Hayes went 2-4 and has been a tear recently, hitting .371 over his last ten games. Closer Cody Winiarski pitched a perfect 9th inning to earn his 5th save while lowering his season ERA to 1.57 in the process.

The Winston-Salem Dash were rained on Thursday and will play a doubleheader on Friday to make it up. Matt Heidenreich (1.78 ERA) will take the ball for game 1.

Delmarva 8, Kannapolis 2

The Kannapolis Intimidators were soundly defeated by the Delmarva Shorebirds on Thursday. Starter Luis Martinez was roughed up, giving up five runs on eight hits and three walks over just three innings. Eddy Alvarez provided a bit of offense by going 2-3 with a double, a walk, and two stolen bases. Outfielder Mason Robbins went 2-4 and John Ziznewski went 1-3 with a double.

DSL Padres 6, DSL White Sox 4

The DSL White Sox fell to 2-3 on the season despite outhitting the DSL Padres on Thursday.
