White Sox Minor League Recap 5/26/2015: Almonte and Drabek spin some gems

Charlotte 9, Columbus 5

Hats off to Kyle Drabek (1-2), whose recent run of success has to be turning some heads in Chicago. Drabek turned in a gem, throwing 93 pitches in a five inning outing where he allowed three hits and only one earned run while striking out seven. Granted, he did walk four batters but that can be excused for a player claimed off waivers during Spring Training. Drabek now has a 2.25 ERA, a 1.00 WHIP and has struck out 30 batters in 36 innings.

The offense continued its hot streak with an evenly spread out attack. Every starter aside from Jeremy Dowdy got a hit and Dowdy reached base via walk. Matt Davidson hit a two run homer and walked while Trayce Thompson went 1-3 with a walk and strike out. In a surprising twist, Leury Garcia hit a three run homer out of the ninth spot and Tyler Saladino went 2-5 as he comes back from the DL.

Kannapolis 4, Lexington 1

Yency Almonte (3-2) pitched a career high seven innings in his victory for the Intimidators as he struck out six and only allowed one earned run on seven hits. Almonte was backed by an Ozzieball-esque offense that manufactured runs off of errors and double plays. Only Zach Fish was able to record an actual RBI while Christian Stringer and Louie Lechich each notched two singles apiece. No Intimidator got an extra base hit. Eddy Alvarez did rack up his eleventh error.

On Wednesday Chris Beck (3-2, 3.30) is expected to take the mound for Charlotte before he makes his major league debut when the Sox face the Orioles in a double header, Myles Jaye (2-2, 4.05) will go for the Barons, Robinson Leyer (1-4, 4.08) will pitch for the Dash and Spencer Adams (1-3, 4.60) will look for a good start for the Intimidators.

NOTE: We’ll have writer Will Siskel live at the Dash game tonight, as he was at Kannapolis for the 26th. Follow the Twitter account for some live tidbits, and the blog later for more in-depth reports from the games.
