White Sox Minor League Recap 4/16/15: Knights win a thriller on rainy day

Thompson was thought to be the rawest of talents in the Sox system, but he had a promising stint with the Intimidators after joining them in mid April. He hit .236/.296/.458 in 144 AB. You have to love the power and the plate discipline showed improvement from a year ago. Unfortunately, Thompson injured his hand and is likely out for the year. He created the most excitement of a White Sox prospect early this year and now we are left frustrated that the injury bug hit another top prospect.

The White Sox have all four of their full season affiliates within 465 miles of each other. That close proximity must be nice for scouts, however, it’s not ideal when bad weather rolls through the region. The Intimidators, Dash, and Barons were all rained out of their games Thursday, with doubleheaders planned Friday and Saturday to make them up.

Charlotte 7, Gwinnett 6 (10 innings)

Top prospect Carlos Rodon allowed three runs over a shaky first two innings, but was able to recover and finish his outing with three scoreless frames to keep his team in the game. Rodon gave up three runs, six hits, and two walks over his five innings, striking out four. Carlos Sanchez kept his up torrid pace since being demoted, going 3-5 with an RBI and a walk. However, Trayce Thompson was the hero, doubling with the bases loaded in the 10th to give the Knights a lead they would not relinquish. Thompson has had a red hot start to the season, hitting .419/.441/.581 over the first eight games. Rehabbing White Sox reliever Jake Petricka made his 2015 debut with a scoreless frame, and former Sox Eric Surkamp pitched two scoreless innings to earn the win.
