It was a rough day for the White Sox affiliates as they were swept by the competition. Marcus Semien continues to be a bright spot as he surges towards a spot in Chicago when the roster expand next month.
The Knights were dominated by Norfolk starter Tyler Wilson but he couldn’t slow down Marcus Semien as he went 2-3 with two doubles and a walk. Semien is hitting .500 over his past ten games and has raised his average from .248 to .271 over that span. Scott Snodgress, who is ticketed for the Arizona Fall League, threw two scoreless innings of relief. The Sox will undoubtly be taking a long look at Snodgress to open 2015 in the Sox bullpen as a lefty reliever.
It got ugly quickly for the Dash as starter J.B. Wendelken gave up eight runs in three innings and reliever Jose Bautista and Tyler Barnette just threw gas on the fire by giving up another eight runs. The Winston-Salem offense had an off night as well, only managing four hits and going 0-8 with runners in scoring position.
Eddy Alvarez went 2-5 but it actually lowered his average to .463 and starter Jordan Guerrero tossed a solid outing but the Intimidators fell Wednesday to the Rome Braves. Guerrero threw four innings, only allowing one earned run on four hits and two walks.
The Voyagers had nine hits but could only muster one run as the fell to the Billings Mustangs on Wednesday night. First baseman Ryan Jones led the way by going 3-4 and second baseman Ethan Gross chipped in a 2-3 performance. Kelvis Valerio had a successful debut with Great Falls, pitching five innings and only allowing two runs on four hits and one walk.
Center fielder Antonio Rodriguez went 2-4 in a game dominated by the Arizona League Rangers. Top prospect Micker Adolfo went 0-4 with four strikeouts which encapsulates his struggles with contact in his first professional season. Adolfo has struck out 85 of his 176 (48%) of his at bats this year.
