White Sox Minor League Recap 8/24: Rodon and Semien are on fire for Knights

Charlotte 8, Norfolk 7

Carlos Rodon set a career high in innings pitched and strikeouts as the top prospect only allowed one run on one hit and two walks, while striking out eight. Rodon now has a 2.75 ERA over 19.2 minor league innings, with an eye-popping 31 strikeouts. Offensively, Marcus Semien is catching fire, he has homered in his three straight game and raised his season average with the Knights to .264/.371/.482. Matt Davidson, Josh Phegley, and Jared Mitchell also homered for the Knights as they held on for the win.

Mississippi 7, Birmingham 1

Trayce Thompson and Michael Earley had two hits apiece but that’s all the damage the Barons could manage. Terance Marin gave up five runs in five innings as Birmingham was handed the defeat.

Carolina 7, Winston-Salem 5

Fighting for a playoff spot, the Dash were defeated by the Mudcats on Sunday. Trey Michalczewski went 2-3 and C.J. Beatty hit a three-run home run but it wasn’t enough as the Dash allowed three unearned runs to score in the 9th.

Kannapolis 7, West Virginia 1

Fresh off an interview with Future Sox, Eddy Alvarez went 4-6 with a stolen base to lead the Intimidators to the easy victory. Alvarez raised his average to an astonishing .467/.520/.689 in 11 games with Kannapolis. Starter Chris Freudenberg threw six innings of one run ball, striking out five. Infielder turned reliever Brad Salgado got an old fashion save, pitching three scoreless innings to complete the game. Salgado has a 2.48 ERA with the Intimidators and has nearly struck out a batter per inning.
