8/8/2014 Recap: Adams and Montas tag team in Arizona, Garcia continues to rake in rehab.

It was a tough night for White Sox affiliates as they went 2-4, though across the system there were big time performances from some big names such as Avi Garcia, Francellis Montas in his return, Spencer Adams continues to mystify the AZL and Rangel Ravelo continues to hit anything and everything.

Pawtucket 11, Charlotte 8

Jared Mitchell led off and had his best game since his return to AAA, going 2-5 with a triple and an RBI. Micah Johnson hit behind him and had a pair of doubles with an RBI. Andy Wilkins continues to hit like a man possessed, going 3-5 with 3 RBIs and his 28th home run. Carlos Sanchez went 2-4 with a walk. Matt Davidson had another one of his “is he finally clicking? Maybe? Hopefully?” games by going 3-4 with a double and two RBIs. Avisail Garcia is now hitting .500 on the year (in AAA during his rehab) after going 2-3 before being lifted in later innings. Chien-Ming Wang was a victim to bad luck, giving up seven runs total but with only one earned as he took home the loss.

Huntsville 5, Birmingham 2

The Barons couldn’t muster enough offense behind starter Bryan Blough, who went 6.2 IP with three earned runs and seven strikeouts. Trayce Thompson has taken up the leadoff spot with the departure of Jared Mitchell and went 1-3 with a home run and a walk. Rangel Ravelo continues to hit everything thrown his way, going 3-4 with a double.

Lynchburg 4, Winston-Salem 3

Jacob May went 1-1 leading off before being replaced in the third by Zach Voight who went 1-4, though there is no word on an injury for May. Cleuluis Rondon went 0-4 but with a walk and a strikeout. Courtney Hawkins went 1-4 with a golden sombrero after getting three strikeouts. Jason Coats went 2-2 with a double, home run, two walks, and three RBIs. Jake Peter continues to hit after his recent promotion, going 2-4 on the day.

Hagerstown 6, Kannapolis 5

The Intimidators squandered their lead late after they put up all five runs in the seventh inning to take said lead after starter Chris Freudenberg only went four innings. Christian Stringer and Trey Michalczewski each went 2-4, Stringer had two RBIs and a walk. Adam Engel and Jacob Morris each went 2-5 with an RBI. Reliever Brad Salgado went three innings and only allowed one run.

Grand Junction 8, Great Falls 3

It was a tough day on the mound for Voyagers starter Zach Thompson, who gave up six runs (three earned) in five innings for the loss. Mason Robbins went 2-5 with a double and an RBI, Zach Fish went 1-4 and Patrick Palmeiro went 2-3 with a triple, walk and RBI.

DSL White Sox 14, DSL Reds 1

The DSL White Sox bats went crazy as Ramon Beltre, Carlos Gonzalez and Carlos Perez each had two singles and two RBIs. Bradley Valdez went 3-4 with two doubles and a walk. Hanleth Otano went 2-3 with a walk and three RBIs and Yolberth Gideon went 3-5 with an RBI.

AZL White Sox 11, AZL Reds

Francellis Montas and Spencer Adams were the pitchers for the AZL White Sox, so this game was in the bag before it started. Montas, in his first rehab start, went two innings with no hits and four strikeouts along with three walks that may be attributable to rust. Adams took over in relief and added to his gaudy KK/B numbers by striking out nine hitters over six innings and only walking one while giving up six hits and two earned runs. Adams now has 49 strikeouts and 3 walks to start his pro career. From the hitting side Jake Jarvis went 2-4 with a double, walk and two RBIs, Blair Moore went 2-3 with a double an RBI before being replaced in the 8th by Ryan Plourde who had a homer and two RBIs in his lone at bat and Micker Adolfo went 3-5 with two doubles and two RBIs.
