08/18/14 Recap

Tim Anderson and Francellis Montas continued their rehabs on Monday night, the Knights exploded for 17 tuns against Gwinnett, and Rangel Ravelo keeps on hitting while Birmingham wins in extras.

Charlotte 17, Gwinnett 4

The Knights offense exploded on Monday night, with every player getting a hit, with all but Matt Davidson getting multiple hits (Davidson did have an RBI after going 1-5). Andy Wilkins went 3-6 with a double, home run, and five RBIs while Matt Tuiasosopo matched his RBI total after going 2-5 with a home run and five RBIs. Jared Mitchell went 3-5 and walked in the leadoff spot in his AAA resurgence while Carlos Sanchez showed off some muscle by hitting two doubles in five at bats, Marcus Semien went 3-5 with a double of his own. Chien-Ming Wang was likely grateful for the run support, though he didn’t need all of it after going seven innings allowing nine hits, three runs, and striking out five.

Birmingham 6, Chattanooga 5

It was a walk-off in Birmingham as the Barons were able to rebound from a blown save in the ninth. Rangel Ravelo continued to hit after going 2-5, Joey DeMichele went 1-5, Martin Medina went 1-1 with two RBIs in a pinch hitting situation and Dan Black went 1-5 with a double. Mike Recchia had the start and went six strong innings, allowing only one earned run on four hits and striking out nine.

Grand Junction 5, Great Falls 3

The Voyagers fell to the Rockies again on a night where they struggled for offense. Some bright spots included Dillon Haupt who went 2-3 with a double and two runs scored, Ryan Jones who went 0-3 with a walk and an RBI and John Ziznewski who went 2-3 with an RBI. Brian Clark had the start and went four innings, giving up four runs on four hits, walking three and striking out seven.

DSL Orioles 1, DSL White Sox 0

It was a rough day for the DSL White Sox as they only mustered four hits and no RBIs. Carlos Mejia, Carlos Gonzalez and Droherlin Mejia each went 1-4. Yolberth Gideon went 0-1 but with three walks and Hanleth Otano went 1-4 with a double. Kevin Escorcia was the tough luck loser, going five innings of one run ball, walking one and striking out eight.

AZL White Sox 4, AZL Cubs 1

Tim Anderson and Francellis Montas led the Dash, er, AZL White Sox to victory over the AZL Cubs. Anderson led off the game with a home run, then went 1-4 on the day. Antonio Rodriguez was 2-4 with a triple, Kevin Swick was 2-4 with a double, and Micker Adolfo went 1-4 with a home run. Montas pitched four innings, allowing one hit, walking three and striking out five. Yelmison Peralta gained the win after throwing the next five innings, allowing one run on three hits and striking out four.
