Recapping the weekend games all in one post here. White Sox affiliates had a shutout each of the past two days and Jake Peter highlighted Sunday’s action with a massive day at the plate for Great Falls. Tony Bucciferro just missed a no-hitter for Winston-Salem on Sunday as well.
Andre Rienzo 5 IP, 6 K, 2 BB, H
Rienzo started the shutout and Matt Zaleski, Frank De Los Santos and Donnie Veal contributed on the back end to combine for a two-hitter. Dan Black blasted his sixth homer for the Knights.
Trayce Thompson 2-3, 2B, BB, 2 SB (#15 & 16)
Chris Beck 8.1 IP, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 K, 0 BB, 6 H
A nice game from Thompson and another solid, but low strikeout start from Chris Beck.
J.B. Wendelken 5 IP, 4 R, 7 K, 2 BB, 8 H
Wendelken hasn’t struck out more than four in a start since May 30. On the season the 21-year-old has 81 K against 21 BB in 103.2 IP.
Adam Engel 4-5, 2B, 3B, K
Christian Stringer 3-5, 2B
Danny Hayes 3-3, 3B, 2 BB
Jake Peter 2-5, 3B
Zach Fisher 3-5
Mason Robbins 3-5, 2B, K
Patrick Palmeiro 3-5, HR, 2 K
The Sox managed just four hits and wasted five scoreless innings from Lucas Shearrow.
Marcus Semien 3-5, 2B, HR #8, K
Jordan Danks 3-5, K
Andy Wilkins 3-5, 2 HR (#20 and 21)
Wilkins extended his home run lead in the International League with two more blasts.
Rangel Ravelo homered for Birmingham’s only run and Myles Jaye gave up four runs in six innings.
Tony Bucciferro 9 IP, 4 K, BB, H
Cleuluis Rondon 3-4
Tony Bucciferro carried a no-hitter into the ninth inning for the Dash, when a ground ball just eluded Nick Basto’s glove with one out. Bucciferro induced a double play on the very next pitch, and he finished the complete game shutout allowing just the one hit, one walk and an ROE. Courtney Hawkins homered for the 15th time and Joey DeMichele homered for the fourth time in the win.
Jeff McKenzie got rocked (5.2 IP, 6 R), but the offense bailed him out. Nolan Earley had three hits and Christian Stringer and Danny Hayes had a pair each.
Hunter Jones 3-4, 2B
Jake Peter 5-6, 4 2B
Zach Fisher 4-5, 2 2B, BB
Obviously there were some huge offensive games in this one. Peter’s line is quite staggering. Fisher added six RBIs. Somehow Peter managed just one RBI, but did score three runs. The 21-year-old rookie is hitting .412/.483/.559 with the Voyagers and could probably handle a promotion.
