5/3 recap: Quality outings for Surkamp, Snodgress

It hasn’t been a great start to the season for starting pitchers Eric Surkamp and Scott Snodgress, but both had arguably their best showing of the year. Only Surkamp was rewarded with a win, although he came on in relief of the rehabbing Felipe Paulino (who still can’t get anyone out).

Buffalo 6, Knights 5

Gorkys Hernandez 2-4, BB, K
Carlos Sanchez 1-4, 2B, 3 K
Tyler Saladino 1-4, 2B, K
Eric Surkamp 6 IP, 2 R, 7 K, BB, 5 H
Felipe Paulino 2 IP, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 K, 1 BB, 5 H

In Surkamp’s last three starts (let’s call tonight’s effort a start), he has pitched 16 innings with seven runs allowed (ehh), 19 K (yay), 3 BB (very yay) and 23 hits (ouch). His season ERA is up at 5.40, but he has 30 strikeouts and 8 walks in 30 innings.

Barons 4, Mobile 3

Micah Johnson 1-3, BB, K
Jeff Keppinger 1-4, HR
Trayce Thompson 1-4, 2B
Rangel Ravelo 2-3
Scott Snodgress 6 IP, 2 R, 7 K, BB, 8 H

Snodgress has had a pair of solid performances from a run perspective, but this was the first time that went together with good peripherals. As a lefty, Snodgress always has the bullpen as a very viable backup option, but this start shows he might still have some life in the tank as a starter.

Dash 9, Potomac 5

Adam Heisler 1-3, 2 BB
Jacob May 1-4, BB
Keon Barnum 1-3, K
Nick Basto 2-4, 2 K
Martin Medina 2-3, 2B, K
Mike Recchia 5 IP, 3 R, 6 K, 2 BB, 5 H

Hickory 6, Intimidators 2

Cleuluis Rondon 1-4, K, 2 errors
Trey Michalczewski 2-4, 2B, 3B, 2 K
James Dykstra 5 IP, 3 R, 5 K, BB, 7 H
