Star of the Day: Trayce Thompson didn’t have a big night, just 1-4, but his first inning single extended his hitting streak to a Southern League best 12 games. Thompson has frustrated some by his slow progress on his raw skills, but his hot start might be a sign he’s finally putting it all together.

Who is Hot: Josh Phegley had a nice night, going 2-4 with a double and a triple. Myles Jaye was effectively wild, walking four but hurling five scoreless innings. Courtney Hawkins combined to go 3-6 with a double and a walk over the doubleheader. There are lingering concerns about Hawkins’ approach and strikeout totals, but he continues to hit.

There are a couple of Dash bullpen arms I want to spotlight, Kyle Hansen and Jefferson Olacio. In game 1, Hansen pitched two hitless innings and struck out three. Olacio appeared in game 2 and pitched 3 innings, giving up 1 hit and striking out 4. Olacio has 14 strikeouts in 9.1 IP and has a nearly perfect 0.96 ERA. Omar Narvaez, a switch hitting catcher acquired by the Sox last season for Jesse Crain, went 3-5 today with a double.

Who is Not: Keenyn Walker was selected with high expectations in the supplemental 1st round of the 2011 draft. He showed ability to get on base (.378 OBP in 2012) and has stolen 118 bases over his career. However, he has been brutal this year and is currently hitting .111 and has struck out 18 times while only drawing 1 walk. Trey Michalczewski had a day he’d probably like to forget, 0-6 with four strikeouts. Intimidator second basemen Tyler Shryock somehow made four errors today, ouch.
