Detoxing At Home and the Shakeology Cleanse...

I’m sure that many, if not all, of you have heard of detox diets.  Maybe you’ve even tried one yourself!?  I have to admit, I’ve always been a critic of these such things.  Why?  Well, the main reason is simply because if you eat properly, drink water, and exercise regularly, your body should be doing just a fine job of eliminating toxins.  The problem is, most people don’t.


  Most people in this country, and the world, put more toxins into their body than the body can handle.  I’m not saying, however, that these people should continue eating that way and then just detox a few times a year… no no.  You see, a detox is just a temporary “fix,” so to speak.  For some people they actually can be beneficial and cause the body to function better.  It really depends on which one you do.  They mainly help clear out some of the toxins in the body, cause you to eat more healthy foods and drink more water, and clean out the system from top to bottom.  However, be weary, because some detox diets are fat TOO low in caloric intake and they will leave you nutrient deprived.  The key here… don’t starve yourself.  Most people WILL lose weight on detoxes, but keep in mind that you are really just cleaning out mostly water weight that the body has been hanging onto because of how you choose to eat on a regular basis.  To continue to keep your body functioning at a top notch level, though, be sure to get ready to change your eating habits all together… feed your body foods that WILL cause it to function great all the time 🙂

I’ve never actually done a detox before… until now.  I never wanted to try one because I didn’t like the idea of living on liquids for a week… yikes!  However, I’ve been a fan of a product called Shakeology for almost a year now.  I’ve been drinking them almost daily as a meal replacement or a snack… so, when I found the newly created Shakeology 3-day cleanse, I decided I’d give it a go for myself.  Shakeology is an exceedingly nutrient-dense shake that is actually quite filling… so, I knew that if I tried this cleanse, that I wouldn’t be left feeling like death.

A basic break-down of this cleanse is as follows…
Sample Menu (Repeat all three days):

1 cup of green tea

– 1 scoop, blended with ice
& 8-10 oz of water
Optional: ½ cup of fruit (only for the super
conditioned – not the weight challenged)

1 piece of

Shakeology – 1 scoop, blended with ice & 8-10
oz of water

1 cup of green tea

Shakeology – 1
scoop, blended with ice & 8-10 oz of water
(This snack can be
before or after dinner)

– Lettuce/veggies

4 oz lean protein (WHITE fish or poultry)
– Light Dressing

I’m on day one today… half way through.  I haven’t felt hungry yet,
which is awesome!  I teach an Interval Training class tonight, so I’ll
see how my energy levels are.  It would NOT be recommended to do
something like this if you are training hard, as the calorie intake is
low.  I’d also recommend adjusting the size of your protein, veggies and
fruits on this depending on what your base metabolic rate is.  I’m
eating a little more on the fruit side and eating a rather LARGE salad
tonight… this is because on a normal day I burn anywhere from
1900-2900 calories… so, I want to make sure I eat NO LESS than 1,200
calories.  Any less than that, and I could be causing myself some

I’ll report back once I’ve finished day 3 of this cleanse to report on
my findings with it and give you my honest opinion.

However, I must say, Shakeology as a meal replacement is wonderful!  I
do recommend checking out the site for more info on this product as it’s
the BEST shake on the market you are going to find.  So, even if you
don’t want to cleanse with it, it may be something you’d be interested
in adding to your daily routine.
