Fire close regular season with 5-2 win in Orlando

A 5-2 away win over Orlando City SC closes the season for the Fire at 10-12-12 in eighth place in the Eastern Conference. The Fire have missed the playoffs in three of the last four seasons under Nelson Rodriguez and Veljko Paunovic as the club prepares to announce their move to Soldier Field in the coming week.

Tesho Akindele scored in the fifth minute for Orlando City and Aleksandar Katai forced an own-goal in the 17th minute to leave the match level at half-time.

CJ Sapong scored his 13th of the year in the 61st in finishing off a feed from Fabian Herbers in a chance that was also created by Katai. Two minutes later Katai scored on his own to make it 4-1.

Przemyslaw Frankowski finished a nifty backheel in the 67th to make it 5-1. Benji Michel scored in the 74th for Orlando City.

  • Is this platform for Chicago Fire reporting now gone? It's been almost 3 months since the last article was posted and even longer since the last fan comment. I tried the promoted The Athletic for a year but the Fire reporting there dwindled to nothing so I dropped it. I am feeling a bit intrigued by the Fire rebrand/rebirth/rebuild and am looking for somewhere to read more about it without having to wade through the self-promotional BS on the Fire website. Is there a new fansite somewhere that I haven't yet discovered? G? Are you still here? Any insight on where to go for news & analysis on the new Fire?
