Fire upset LAFC

The Fire played one of their best games of the season in a 3-1 victory over Los Angeles FC. It was their first ever contest against the expansion team led by former Fire coach Bob Bradley. LAFC has been one of the top teams in the Western Conference all season but the Fire played the counter very well  took a 2-0 lead into the half on the strength of a 20th minute golazo from Djordje Mihailovic and a 29th minute penalty conversion by Nemanja Nikolic after Brandt Bronico drew slight contact in the box.

The Fire took a 3-0 lead in the 66th when Nikolic and Mihailovic combined for another well executed counter that Aleksandar Katai ended up finishing.

Diego Rossi scored a consolation goal for LAFC in the 73rd.

  • The Fire played well. I knew Katai would score when he came on because LAFC were suspect in the back especially for secondary runs that Katai seems to excel at. It's frustrating to this team beat LAFC but get trounced by NYCFC. This game and the Orlando game show what the Fire could have been but the NYCFC games shows where they really stand. Cannot wait for Joe Mansueto to take full control.
