DC United edge Fire 2-1

Wayne Rooney scored twice as DC United defeated the Fire 2-1 in the first match between the two at Audi Field. The home team and Rooney, also had another goal disallowed in the 21st minute after the referee reviewed video of a foul during the play leading up to the finish.

The Fire took the lead in the 51st when Aleksandar Katai broke down the DC defense to find Raheem Edwards on the left side of the box. Edwards maneuvered around two more defenders to score just inside the far post.

DC tied the match in the 62nd when Rooney deflected a pass toward goalkeeper Stefan Cleveland, who made the initial stop but the former Manchester United star was able to knock in his own rebound.

Johan Kappelhof collided with Junior Moreno inside of the box in the 80th minute and Rooney converted the spot kick for the victory.
