Union down Fire 3-1

The Philadelphia Union pulled a full four points ahead of the Fire for seventh place in the Eastern Conference after a 3-1 victory at Talen Energy Stadium. Chicago started in a defensive posture with Bastian Schweinsteiger deployed mostly as a fifth defender but a late first half goal from Ilsinho forced the Fire to open up in the second half.

They improved offensively but Philadelphia also increased their pressure in attack. A 51st minute Corey Burke header gave them a 2-0 lead before Alan Gordon pulled one back for the Fire in the 56th.

Boreck Dockal finished the scoring by converting an 87th minute penalty kick.
