Fire to host Tottenham in July

The Fire aren’t wasting any time in announcing next summer’s international friendly. They will take on BPL side Tottenham Hotspur on July 26 at Toyota Park. Spurs currently sit in seventh place in the Premier League and are one of the clubs that Frank Yallop mentioned as a potential loan partner for players that could help in 2014. Tottenham will also play the Seattle Sounders on July 19.

Fire season ticket holders will have first access to ticket purchase on January 8 with general public sales beginning on January 24.

  • Fire Senior VP of Ticket Sales, Service, Operations, and Marketing Mike Ernst explained via Twitter this afternoon why this game wasn't included in the STH package for's what he had to say:

"The appearance fee to bring in a team like Tottenham is cost prohibitive if we make it a ST game because of our prices. It is why we have not had a top-tier European Club play at TP in a while. That said, we want to give STHs the best deal. We made the call to keep Season Ticket prices affordable vs. raising price. A number of STHs don't want friendlies. We are doing the game to generate buzz which we hope will grow game, #cf97 fan base, and revenue. STHs get first dibs at a substantial discount off the single game price. Pre-sale starts Jan 8."

  • so now 5 games in 14 days at the end of july into august.

  • In reply to penapirata:

Scheduling is always going to be more of a challenge in a World Cup year.

  • In case anyone was wondering, there is absolutely nothing to the Jean Baptiste Pierazzi to the Fire rumors. Chuck that one into the silly season trash's nonsense.

  • In reply to Guillermo Rivera:

But fans would have been so excited to have a new midfielder from a perennial relegation-threatened team with no caps or youth national team experience!

I know nothing about this guy, but for once I'm glad there's no there there.

  • In reply to Guillermo Rivera:

remember last July when you said that the "Rios to cf97" rumors were all garbage? you just never know.

  • In other Fire related news......don't panic - it's not too likely Federico Puppo will be back to occupy a DP slot. He has one more year left on his Fire contract and they'll have to find another loan deal for him to play somewhere else in 2014.

  • In reply to Guillermo Rivera:

his contract was that long? who's idea was it to get that guy in the first place?

  • In reply to penapirata:

    Puppo was Javier Leon's guy.

  • In reply to Jeff Krause:

Man Leon was a really good judge for talent huh?
